Born in Utah, his journey into the medical field began with a profound personal experience. As a child, he faced illness and was deeply moved by the nurses who cared for him. This early exposure to the compassionate side of healthcare ignited a desire to serve others, leading him to pursue a career in nursing.

Derrick’s academic journey is a testament to his commitment to excellence. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brigham Young University-Idaho with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, boasting a remarkable GPA of 3.92. He then earned a Master of Science as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Brigham Young University-Provo, graduating with a GPA of 3.9 in August 2014.

While completing his training as a family nurse practitioner, he worked in pediatrics for nearly five years. His experiences with childhood illness further fueled his desire to serve others, mirroring the care he received as a child.

Derrick’s personal life also significantly shaped his professional path. His family’s struggles with infertility, infant loss, and pregnancy complications inspired a deep interest in women’s health. This led him to specialize further, earning a post-graduate certificate as a Certified Nurse Midwife from Frontier Nursing University in May 2022.
